Since 2008, the Port of Olympia has been working with the Washington State Department of Ecology to investigate contamination in Budd Inlet sediments. In 2009, the Port completed an interim sediment clean-up and pilot study of sediments in two of the marine terminal shipping berths. After this work was complete, the Port entered into an
Agreed Order 6083 to further investigate contamination in sediments in Budd Inlet adjacent to the Port Peninsula.
In August 2016, the Department of Ecology approved the Port's
"Final Investigation Report: Port of Olympia Budd Inlet Sediment Site". The Port is currently working with the Department of Ecology on the Alternatives Memo, a mandatory follow-up to the approved Final Investigation Report per the
Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA)
